Who is Jesse? Also, this is a strange and funny compilation. What is the theme? Is it just bands that you (Dave) like and that have an Indiana connection?
Hey Kurt
Yeah Jesse was the singer for Outspoken. Everyone on this compilation was connected with the now defunct Musical Family Nuts. Most of the material came from members of the website. Four of the artists that perform on it are now in Heaven: Lon Paul (Marmoset)Terry Hollywood( Howe ) on guitars, Merle Griggs( Bitch Head) and Jesse Mandulay(Outspoken). The tribute to Jesse is by the California Killers/ ex Outspoken members. Terry and Lumpy are the guitarists for The Ripped Vorpals.
The bass player for Outspoken and Nowheregoodfast, two bands from this compilation, Chris Pelley , is a good friend and also used to be married to my wife's best freind. They lived in Pendleton for awhile..but are now divorced.
While I was putting this together, Shane Cree( Speedball Rebel, Kromejob,Starpiss) and Jon Scott Sheets (Punkin Holler Boys) sent me material. Strange and funny indeed..just the way I like it. Red Snertz was strange and funny also..was it not? Dirty little secrets is Julie's band. Ghost faced cow is Wendy Darst's band. Bullet LaVolta and the Konks are your bands. I think Punkmobile by the Walking Ruins is punk rock genius.. Johnny Quest and Paul Mayhern are of course in Dandelion Abortions. The X-Spurtz take their rightful place amongst these luminaries. What is not to like my friend? These songs rock. Open up your fuckin' ears man!! LOL..also send me your address for your free copy
Your friend,

Dude, I am doing great myself. I just celebrated my 19th wedding anniversary and my 48th birthday within the last 2 months. My wife is awesome...she is a nurse and a house supervisor at a retirement community, working 3rd shift no less. She is also a published author of horror fiction books. I have 2 21 year old boys...my son and a step son, and a 13 year old daughter. I have a good job as a representative for a nutritional supplement company. I haven't played in any bands since 1990, but I do still play a lot, and spend time recording in my little home studio with the boys....let me know how to get I can contact you and I will call some time
It's been way too long man.....been busy raisin kids, and learning how to fuckin fix shit in a 95 year old house.....how have you been.....hope you are doin well. get back with me and let me know what the hell's been goin on witcha!!!
Yo Wilding!
There are 2 cds available - "Fall of the House of Ruin" & "Cannon Fodder For the Class War".
You can order the Gulcher version of "Fall..." online easily enough.
"Cannon Fodder" is an earlier collection of stuff and is my personal fave - you can listen to 3 sample tracks on my bio page on MFT.
To get it contact John Terrill here or I can email his #.
He & Ian printed up a 1000 discs out of their own pockets so he does charge $10.00.
I humbly submit it is worth it.
It is always a pleasure to discourse with ya,
Johnnnnnnnny B.
Indiana want's you! Bring the Konks, or do another Repellents show! "wishful thinking on my part, anyway". I'm working with Cheetah Chrome setting up some midwest shows, bigtime, huh?
Hey Yukki, I was really surprised to see you on this site. I'm pretty new to it but it seems OK. I hope you're still making racket like I am. Have a blast!!
thanks, man. yeah, i do have some stuff by about half the folks in the book - the one that surprised me the most was the 'City of Glass' dude. When it became apparent that every bit of recorded music was going to eventually become available via internet or reissue eventually i started asking older relatives to recall music or recordings that they had once owned but did not have access to any longer; my dad's request was the Stan Kenton sides of 'City of Glass.' So I tracked it down for him, like, ten years ago, it was right after the first CD reissue. Very interesting, atonal stuff, really relating to Branca and downtown NYC squawk bands from the late seventies early eightis, but scored for big band and recorded in the early fifties. Very weird.
I asked Tony about his Ledge film and he was willing to tell me about it, but he thought I was near Indy so he coould talk FTF on his visit. I'll follow up with him after he's back West.
Oh, and yeah, I TOTALLY know Chusid's show. Hey, I got one for ya:
http://thehound.net/
former DJ at WFMU, specializing in bomp and wierd. I hear tell he owns and runs a bar in NOLA these days.
So, on finishing the book, in his outro (or whatever it is in bookese - afterword, I suppose), Chusid thanks one 'Yuval Taylor.' Yuval is from B-ton and was big pals with John Barge, Ian Brewer, and Eric White of Panics fame. I think he was their senior class president in high school and was elected via a campaign of punkish prankery. I -think- he must have something to do wth the press that pit the book out. If you search MFT for Yuval's name there are some pix of him dancing to a very early Frankie Camaro band, Mars Needs Women, on the IU campus sometime around 1981.
Andy, yeah, I know what you're saying...the Lemonheads then instantly faded into multi-platinum obscurity. That's such a great perspective when most people have no idea the band even existed pre-1992.
If anyone bothering to read this hasn't heard t…
I'm not crazy about Michael Jackson or modern-day indie rock, but I will sing the SHIT out of some prime Manilow.
Burd, you nailed me.
I write the songs that make the whole wooooorld siiiing....
ahhhh Bullet Lavolta, their 1st 12" almost bordered on being the new Jerry`s Kids !!! Then they hit the UK with the Lemonheads & they both fell away.....those were the days lol
What gets me is people forget that punk/hardcore was NOT a private party…

Ben Blackburn current efforts for finding a band have been fruitless
Burd, I would never accuse you of being shy about speaking your mind. And I doubt anyone would have thought me anything but a raging snob from way back. And with the anti-Manilow snobbery of the post below, we continue to have plenty in common. FTR:…
John, it didn't seem like good natured to me when I went back and looked. It reeked of pretentious snobbery. Haughtiness. The funny thing is; I'd probably step up and say something if someone was doing it to you. Incidently, there are all sorts of t…

Yuval also has a blog which relates to a book:
http://fakingit.typepad.com/
The book is about the idea of 'authenticity' in popular music. The blog is fascinating; the book sounds like it would be.
Score another one for the little-known Hoosier mafia! ;)
