Musical Family Tree

The Indiana Music Archive and Online Community

As you probably noticed we have made some major changes to the site. I want to go over these changes in this blog and let you give us some feedback on what we've done and input on where it's going.

First off...

Design- we have implemented designs that Kevin Fitzpatrick created for the site. Although we couldn't get the community to do everything we wanted it to in terms of design I think the changes are a vast improvement over the previous "design". The new look and feel extends to the Archive and Store.

MP3 Archive- this is where we spent most of our efforts. The MP3 archive is completely rebuilt, front and backend, and I think it is vastly improved. I gotta give props to Jordan Wilson for really making this a reality. He built all new MP3 Flash players that work like a charm with great player settings. Now you can just stream all the songs on an artists page from any point and control everything via these easy to use player settings. I'm really excited about this part of this site. I think everyone will find it much easier to browse, listen and download music from the archive. Check it out!

Organization- the site is now organized a little differently. We have a proper "home" page which is a portal to the 3 areas of the site- community, archive and store. It also pulls in content from all three areas. You may also notice that we have used the three MFT domains for each section. So...Musicalfamilytree.com is the home page and archive, Musicalfamilytree.net is the community (here) and Musicalfamilytree.org is the store. We think this might be the easiest way for users to bookmark or type in the area they want to go to.

There is more to come! We are still working on setting up Band Access and Band Sign Up. Two features we really see growing the MP3 Archive. Our goal is to have every noteworthy band from Indiana, past or present, added to the site over the coming years. We realize we need to enlist bands and fans to help in that effort. Stay tuned as we roll out more updates and improvements.

So what do you think? Love it? Hate it? Ideas on how to improve it? This site isn't anything without the members, bands and fans that visit and give input. We want to hear what you have to say!

Thanks.

Andy, yeah, I know what you're saying...the Lemonheads then instantly faded into multi-platinum obscurity. That's such a great perspective when most people have no idea the band even existed pre-1992. If anyone bothering to read this hasn't heard t…

Burd, I would never accuse you of being shy about speaking your mind. And I doubt anyone would have thought me anything but a raging snob from way back. And with the anti-Manilow snobbery of the post below, we continue to have plenty in common. FTR:…

John, it didn't seem like good natured to me when I went back and looked. It reeked of pretentious snobbery. Haughtiness. The funny thing is; I'd probably step up and say something if someone was doing it to you. Incidently, there are all sorts of t…
