The Indiana Music Archive and Online Community

A buddy, thanks Brendan!, sent me a link to a cool blog called South Bend Power 90s documenting, as the title might suggest, bands from the 90s who also happened to live in South Bend/Notre Dame.

I was briefly part of the South Bend scene (89-92ish) and know some of these bands. In particular check out Brian, Colin and Vince, still one of my favorite Indiana bands, ever. Brian Muller was, and hopefull still is, an amazing songwriter. Also check out Victoria's Real Secret who went on to achieve some fame later as Sweep The Leg Johnny after some members moved to Chicago. Another band of note was Chisel featuring Ted Leo that later moved to DC and had a good deal of success before Ted went "solo" and now heads up one the better current Indie rock bands- Ted Leo and the Pharmacists.

Check it out!

i was in a subset of the next generation of the south bend scene. the band i was in was called "nine days' wonder" and we were around from 92 to 94. we played mostly all ages places because half the band was in high school and the other half were still under 21. it was amazing because as soon as we started playing shows a bunch of other bands formed and suddenly there was a mini-scene complete with rivalries and such. i wonder if there is anyone here from any of those bands...

Chris - you are incredible. When you sneeze, do DM51 songs fly across the room?

I went to IUSB in 90-91 and marginally hung out in SB for summers from roughly 89-95 (I lived in Elkhart) but I had absolutely no idea there was a music scene, aside from listening to crappy pop on U-93...

yeah, I was totally in Indy by then but yes, I was part of the IU South Bend and Notre Dame scenes as much as there were scenes back then and there. Dennys was where a lot of people hung out besides around Notre Dame.

Here's a link to Brian, Colin and Vince's band on the MFT Archive.

Andy, yeah, I know what you're saying...the Lemonheads then instantly faded into multi-platinum obscurity. That's such a great perspective when most people have no idea the band even existed pre-1992. If anyone bothering to read this hasn't heard t…

Burd, I would never accuse you of being shy about speaking your mind. And I doubt anyone would have thought me anything but a raging snob from way back. And with the anti-Manilow snobbery of the post below, we continue to have plenty in common. FTR:…

John, it didn't seem like good natured to me when I went back and looked. It reeked of pretentious snobbery. Haughtiness. The funny thing is; I'd probably step up and say something if someone was doing it to you. Incidently, there are all sorts of t…
