Band Of the week! 6/08/09! The Additives!

The Additives new CD "Should It End" landed on my desk for review. Due to computer problems and some other obligations its taken me awhile to get a chance to really listen to it. So today I gave it a listen through. Here are my overall thoughts.

The musical arrangements are really good. They remind me of Wilco and other Americana indie rock type bands. If you are a fan of this genre you should definitely check them out.

This album is very easy to listen to. Standout tracks like "Lookin' Out" and "Blood Red Diamonds" are a reason to give it a spin.

The album is out now and you can buy it here: http://cdbaby.com/cd/additives2

You can listen tothe entire album here at their myspace: http://www.myspace.com/joeryanmrbridgeport

good insight! I'm sure they would love to work with either of those dudes!

Thanks for the background, Jeb. I once was blind, but now, I see...

BTW, with Additives, I think they could benefit greatly from working with the right producer. It's obvious they have some things going for them; different instrumentation, a distinctive voice, competent songwriting...I think, with the right producer, they could gain a liitle more singularity and identity. Maybe they don't want that sort of intervention or treatment, but I could see them adopting more personality with some ambience-enhancement, ala, a Mitchell Froom or Daniel Lanois.

Just some thoughts.

a little background. Joe Ryan, lead guy in Additives, was in Admiral Stereo with myself and PJ when we lived in Chicago so the connection is one removed but we consider him part of the tree as we do many other bands that have relationships with Indiana folks via playing together.

The Additives, a band from Bridgeport, Chicago.

Is someone in this band originally from Indianer?

Either way, this stuff is a little MOR for my tastes. Good to keep a variety, I guess.
Carry on...
