This was sent out to about 3000 people on the MFT newsletter list.

I'm really excited about this one! We finally have a band submission form set up so that bands, current and past, can easily set up their own page including uploading images and MP3s as well as noting which bands they are related to.
The form then cre…

As you probably noticed we have made some major changes to the site. I want to go over these changes in this blog and let you give us some feedback on what we've done and input on where it's going.
First off...
Design- we have implemented designs that Kevin Fitzpatrick created for the site. Although we couldn't get the community to do everything we wanted it to in terms of design I think the changes are a vast improvement over the previous "design". The new look and feel extends to the…

MFT 2.0 or is that 3.0 has been under daily development for the last few weeks. After a couple false starts the last year or so we have been able to consistently free up one of our developers at Small Box, Jordan Wilson, who is also a great designer and flash developer. A triple threat he is! We are working from the Kevin Fitzpatrick designs for the overall look and feel of the site.
I expect to launch the site by the end of the summer. I want to get it rock solid before going live if possible.…

Life has been busy for me lately and I feel like I've neglected this beloved little site. I thought I'd give you guys an update on things MFT related.
We are still finishing out the band access. We got a little sidetracked with a fun project we are finishing up- check it out at
www.recordgeeks.com. It will be a cool vinyl review site when it is done. Or plan is to quickly return to band access to the archive which has been a priority forever but never ye…

We need to pay some MFT related bills so it's time for a sale!
For one week only, 2/4-11, everything in the MFT Store is half price.
So grab all the great Indiana tunes you need while the sale lasts and support a good cause, this one!, along…

it appears we had some code linking to a site that no longer provides a service that we were using for streaming the songs. I'm not sure exactly why it broke the players but it did so after much consternation the archive is back up and running, again.
enjoy!

On January 31st MFT will be 5 years old! Like one of my kids it's hard to believe the site is only 5 since I can't seem to imagine life without MFT at this point.

I added a new profile question tonight. It's a private question which means that the person signing up to be a member just fills it out for review by the admin in order to join (admin=me and about 5 other people).
The new question asks what is the user's connection, if any, to the Indiana music scene. Another question is "Original Hometown" since many of us grew up in Indiana (or wherever) and moved wherever (or Indiana).
The goal here is to screen out any really good spam bots and individuals…

I have added a really cool little feature to MFT today. It's a tip jar! It's an gadget powered by TipJoy.com that let's regular visitors to a site help support with a small donation. I have the tip jar set to 25 cents right now. Obviously you can leave a bigger tip but we'll take whatever you want to send.
Here is some more information about Tip Joy

I removed the Blog Ads from the site since it isn't bringing the revenue I wanted. Also, I wou…

A number of you have mentioned that they aren't too crazy about your present and past lives being all over Google via MFT. Although I think this is the way that many people find the site it is also a hassle for people who want to keep their personal and professional lives somewhat separate. I can sympathize.
So I changed the settings on the site to only allow members to see beyond the home page. This means all the profiles, discussions, photos, etc are not going to be indexed in Google (I think…

If anybody knows more about the Indy band
MEAT FLAG, please let me know. Their
webpage seems to be down and I'd LOVE to get/hear even
more of their music than what's available on MFT—if it's available from someone, somewhere... Also: would simply like to know more about the band.

We have restored most of the
MFT MP3 Archive after a near death experience. Bottom line we had a horrible, awful server experience with a company called, ironically, Host I Can. They are very unsympathetic to our plight and have told us to basically get lost. Bummer.
Now, we are not without fault here. I should have been better in keeping active back ups for this project. We did have 90% of the site archived but had not backed it up recen…

Our host company, ironically named "Host I Can", has pulled, without warning, all MP3s off of our server. They gave us some lame excuses but it came down to them admitting "we say you can have as much space as you want but in reality you can't". Hence forth they shall be called "Host I Can't".
Anyway I'm pissed. They promise they will get us a back up of the site so we can reload it to another server. This could take a few weeks. I'm going to take the Archive off line until then since there is…

According to a recent article from the BBC news service, "Independent record labels have cried foul after failing to reach a deal for their acts to appear on MySpace Music." The article quotes Bob Frank of Koch Records, "MySpace continually states that it is embracing the independents—it's a pretty listless and cold embrace." [more at

We have relaunched the MFT store, stocked full of goodies including some upcoming releases that are only available on MFT, for now...
Please take a look, buy something and let us know what you think. It's right on the top Navigation under "Store" or you can go to
store.mftrecords.com
BTW the server speed is a little slow right now, we are looking into that.
