So maybe you already knew this, but there are some changes coming for Musical Family Tree, which will all hopefully be seen as improvements. As of 2012, I (Jon Rogers) have joined the team at Small Box in order to be head content writer/editor/curator for Musical Family Tree, among a variety of other duties.…

Time to shut down the MFT Community?

I've been thinking about this a lot recently. I'm pretty burned out on this platform ( for the MFT community. I've been thinking that a simplified blog format might actually be more effective than this online community platform. Let's face it, Facebook and Twitter have won. That's where people are hanging out. We need to take the content there as much as possible

I see a great Indiana…

That's right folks...

We went there.  We created a list of our favorite local songs of 2010.  By "we", I mean: Dan Fahrner, Dodge from My Old Kentucky Blog, Scott Shoger from Nuvo and Dave Lindquist from the Indy Star.  We each listed our favorite local songs from the year (at the bottom) and then compiled a…

Oranje - Indy's Most Progressive Event?

I know that's a pretty ballsy statement, which is why I ended it with a question mark. I'd love to hear what people think about Oranje, because everyone truly has a different impression of the event. There are quite a few definitions of the word progressive, but it generally means "pushing the boundaries" for the purposes of critiquing and judging art and culture.…

500 Days of Night - Brazil Singer's Tour Blog

When I first landed in Muncie some 8 years ago there was a mighty band everyone looked up to. This band was...

Dudes were breaking big at the time in the all ages "post-rock" scene and truly inspiring gentlemen for us young and inexperienced scenesters. It's hard to comprehend how a band actually turns into a business,… Continue

Blogs on MFT- specifically Political ones

There has been a lot of great conversation on the site on how to handle political content. At first, when the site was flooded with political blogs, there was a reaction by myself and others to get a little freaked out. Suddenly this little music community was turning into a political site, oh no! So I cracked down on political blogs, removed some and banned them from the home page blog feed after setting up a Politics Forum. This was met with concerns over censorship and the appearance that… Continue

I'm going to be reposting some of my MOKB content on here now and then I think...when it's related to the local scene. You can see Ryan Reidy tonight at Birdys, opening for Tulsa and The Whigs...

Ryan Reidy told me about his Sisters project quite a while ago, but like the a-hole I am, I forgot to check into them. MySpace is an ugly beast anymore to me. Anyway, lately, they've been… Continue
