I was at one of the state fair shows...I recall being 9 at the time, and my cousins being pissed that we weren't seeing the Osmonds. IT WAS AMAZING. Screaming, dancing, spangly costumes. I still love the J5, I think theirs were some of the first 4...
oh hey all!
I din't know Ed Emmer as far as I remember, but feel free to make any intros! I like the Shorty book a lot, though I'm biased. It was amazing the next day sitting around with wweber and stacey, all reading our books and telling stories...
It says "play" these things, not master them. As for bass, I built a one string bass out of a shovel and an e string and played that for two years. Right now primarily lap steel and drums and vox. At the same time.
I have a cassette label called "Harness the Means of Production Productions" and I'm producing release 2 now, a re-issue of an Ohio audio-zine from 1986 called "I Can't Explain". Really? That's cool. Tell them to look me up. My apartment will be full: my brother, sister-in-law and their two kids are coming. Steve S and his fam couldn't find a place to stay and finally decided not to fight the crowd of 4 million.
I am so bummed that I missed you. I **think** I talked to Bill, though. I had no voice either, between the smoke and constant screaming. I could hardly stay in one spot to dance. I was running all over the place.
What a fun show!
I started reading the book Sunday evening on the plane, read until 1 in the morning when I got home that night and finished Monday night before I went to bed. Now I regret not contributing! So many fun anecdotes, many that stirred some really great memories.
I should have sent that caricature of Bill W, but I never bothered to contact Bill Grapes about it. He drew it on the back on an envelope when we were dating (1986?), and I guess I posted it at the No Bar because everyone loved Bill W so much. It was there until the last night of the No Bar, which was the week before the last JC show.
I tried to blog live about the show for MFT from my Blackberry but couldn't get it to work. So I'll post something about it later this week.
I told Steve Schmidt that I still had election-night euphoria and couldn't stop hugging and kissing everyone. So -- here's a hug and a kiss from DC! Again, I'm so sorry that I missed you.
