I am lame. You know I never got back to you much but I felt bad about it. Admitting you have a problem is the 1st step. I am in PA visiting my mom and taking some R&R. My family is doing well and I am elated to be not working for a week. We are gong to St. Loise for the weekend (10-12 of July) for a friends wedding. That should be pretty fun. Was thinkkng about the mid west crew and of course you are on the top of the list (wipping away tears)
I miss you guys. It has been such a insanely long amount of time since we last saw each other. Drop me a line some time or e-mail me at awalnoha@bellsouth.net

Is that in your front yard? I haven't had much time to check this because of my scheldue being so crazy. It seemes like I just registered on here but it was already June!? Anyway, Hope all is well. YOu dudes and Dudettes every coming south to Atlanta?
I worked at Rockits and you may have known my sister from LC, Marcia Armstrong. I have lost touch with Mike Kissenger and would like to find out what he is up to.
I've always enjoyed and appreciated music--whether it's clever lyrics, or well-turned musical "phrases." When I was dating Carol, who had perfect pitch, a mom who taught three instruments and played for the Danville, IL, civic orchestra, and a little brother who went to IU on a music scholarship, I started finding out about basic, big picture things, like hearing the difference between major, minor, and natural modes, recognizing rhythms, etc., but I had never learned to actually read music to see the proportional relations between sounds and times, and I have been so excited to be learning this all in the last year and a half. My wife, Amber, was a drummer in middle and high school, her mom drummed in her HS band where she met Amber's dad, who was a trumpeter. When he was in the Navy, he would go to bars when in port to find open-mike nights...Natasha tried out band instruments at the end of fifth grade, and was able to make sound from all of them, including the oboe and bassoon. She now plays the flute in her high school's concert band. Tatyana started trying out guitar lessons in first grade, then moved on to piano in third grade. Last year, she started playing drums with her school band...
So, Beth is teaching art? That's awesome. I originally thought I wanted to be a high school art teacher, but the HS kids in our valley (and LA County, generally) were quite hardcore when I first moved up here. I started subbing elementary when I wasn't able to get any work as a designer or illustrator after moving from San Diego, and really enjoyed it. I feel so honored, being part of what gives our kids a good start. After 13 years, my first students (who were sixth graders) have gone on to be actresses, videographers, political organizers, farriers, doctors of physical therapy, and some have become statistics...one Marine, killed in Fallujah, another boy who died young missing a curve on a dark highway...I feel such a connection to this community, and this area, that I never thought I'd have. Certainly not in any way I'd imagined. Growing up is scary and overrated, but perspective is cool!
Who would have known it would come to this - a one man band with a featured Theremin ; ) I still have my Echoplex EP2 from my rockabilly daze in Indernapolis.. can’t get the tapes no' more.. you can see my son and I jamming in my profile - we love the Bakersfield sound
Hey, Scott--
I haven't played the bass in years. I sold my bass about eight years ago to the bassist for a local psychobilly band, the Detonators. They play hot rod shows and honkytonks around here--three teachers. I've been taking piano lessons with my youngest daughter, though, and I've been really enjoying them. I'm finding that I have more of an ear for music than I'd ever given myself credit for--I now have the vocabulary to describe what I'm hearing, what I'm doing, etc. Very cool.
"When Mark Allen started playing, it became apparent that the freedom to smoke squares was probably not the only factor keeping music fans outdoors."
You may want to reconsider this sentence. It sounds like you're saying his playing was driving p...
