Thanks for the info. Mike and I still haven't had a chance to meet up so he can give me the copy of the book he got for me. (It was to be an xmess present, but was waylaid by Seattle's SNOWPOCALYPSE 2008 -- so bad it even stopped the mails.)

My brother in law is from Bosnia. His name is Toza Grbic. After he moved here, his brother Quesay moved here with his wife and two children. Quesay oldest son was named Imir. He was 15 years old. He found meshing in with the kids at the local high school very difficult. He soon fell in with the wrong crowd and became a junkie. He overdosed on Methadone and died. The second son is Ebro. He has down syndrome. Needless to say, Quesay and his wife Hosaima were devastated by the loss of Imir.

When the Bosnian first arrived, they would invite me over to their little cook-outs. They would procure a black lamb from a local farmer in Pendleton. then they would disembowel that little lamb and roast him over a small wood fire, rotisserie style. The first such party I attended, they got me all stoked up on Coors light and promised me that I was about to taste the most delicious cuisine that I had ever tasted. Now I love middle eastern food..but this lamb meat was horrible..an acquired taste, I suppose.

Both Toza and Quesay have found financial success here in America. Both fought in the war against the Serbs. I have heard many heartbreaking stories about their plight. They said their army was funded by Osama bin Laden and spoke glowingly of him. These guys are all alcoholics and show no sign of any religious commitment.

I have followed the path of Yoga for many years, so much so that I feel a close affinity towards Hinduism.
At another point in my life, I felt infused with the Holy Spirit and considered myself to be a Christian.
I lean toward science and believe in Evolution, etc.
I have that read many Muslims believe that theirs is the true religion and that Hindu cow worshiping = idol worship, etc.

"In Bosnia and Herzegovina today al-Qaeda is in a strategic planning phase. This means that, among such potentials - and it is likely that there are 100,000 such believers - you can find five people... to hang bombs on their belts and bring in explosives," says Dzevad Galijasevic, chairman of the New Democratic Party in Bosnia and an author of the recently published book The Era of Terrorism in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Muhammed! Welcome, and thanks a TON for contributing to the Ben Ishamel stuff! What a fascinating topic, huh? Hopefully the rest of the talkers in the threads will show up and we can move things forward again.

Mahan Kalpa, a respected musician in this community, works at a folkore institute associated with IU in Bloomington and has mentioned he has something on the Ben Ishmael tip - whether that's archival audio, personal thoughts, or some music that he's written I do not yet know. But I am surely looking forward to it!

Andy, yeah, I know what you're saying...the Lemonheads then instantly faded into multi-platinum obscurity. That's such a great perspective when most people have no idea the band even existed pre-1992. If anyone bothering to read this hasn't heard t…

Burd, I would never accuse you of being shy about speaking your mind. And I doubt anyone would have thought me anything but a raging snob from way back. And with the anti-Manilow snobbery of the post below, we continue to have plenty in common. FTR:…

John, it didn't seem like good natured to me when I went back and looked. It reeked of pretentious snobbery. Haughtiness. The funny thing is; I'd probably step up and say something if someone was doing it to you. Incidently, there are all sorts of t…
