Yeah, I know what you mean. Sometimes when someone's parent is dying, I will tell them about my own father's death to kind of let them know that they are not alone...there are decisions to be made that are complicated by grief and people have to try to function in this state of numbness...it's good to have some social support and understanding. I'm sorry to hear about your dad--if you want to tell me what happened please do. All my friends do; it a seems to be a way for them to process things. I friended you so you can tell me in private if you want. We're all at that age now huh?
I'm sorry to hear about paulie's dad--I was afraid something had happened like that had happened. Sometimes I just get a funny feeling......

Sounds like you are doing great too! Loved hearing from you! Met an aquaintance of yours from NOLA @ viva las vegas rockabilly weekend a few years back. An attorney named paulie--sound familiar? I was kind of worried about him and his mom after katrina--she was old and infirm, etc. I didn't call to check--because after paulie found out I was divorced he called me every day. sometimes more than once. So please let me know if they are ok--but don't tell him I asked!
Hope your tour is super and your life is lovely; please come and play in phoenix so I can see y'all. But don't come in the summer time, cause it'll cook yer eggs. :>

Really enjoying the tour diary, and a big Pendletons fan. I've only seen you play once, in a garage at a BBQ in NOLA in...uh...'96? Maybe? I was travelling with thee Viceroys from mpls, who also played that super hot day. there were hippity hop races around a bird bath with tequila shots for prizes?! It was great, anyway...have a great tour, and I'll keep readin!

About Me
I, Jonathan Matthew Uhlman was, as my Mother says, "Borned" in Lawrenceburg Indiana on the bank of the Ohio River. introduced to Bloomington freak scene by two of my older sisters who lived there in the late 60's through mid 70's. (and exposed me to such characters as David Ebbinghaus etc. John Terril is also from Lawrenceburg (his father was my parent's dentist back in the 1940's.) other Lawrenceburgers include Angie Skidmore of the Altered Boys (pre-sally's dream) and the late, great and missed Jim Hurd. and of course the amazing Weavers are my first cousins. Bill, Veronica, and Mark Weaver, that is. so I was exposed to freakish wierdness at a very early age. started going to shows and art openings in Bloomington in about 1983., when my brother Todd was a frosh there. finally graduated high school and entered my freshman year at I.U. in 1985. lived at Collins for first year and then moved to first and henderson. ended up in the Allen Building to enjoy the last vestages of downtown "bohemian" living, before the square became square.
was in a couple of garage bands that were great.---modock and the nevermores.

moved from Bloomington in about 1990-91 and landed in New Orleans, where I've been pretty much since. moved back to Bloomington for about a year and a half in 1999-2000 and loved it.
Presently Props Master for the New Orleans Opera. member of The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employes, Moving Picture Technicians, Artists and Allied Crafts of the United States, Its Territories and Canada
I do an aweful lot of DJ'ing. in New Orleans, and New York 50's and 60's soul, garage, country, rock and roll.
What bands are you or have you been in?
OHM international (Bill Foster, John Leichty, Mike Whybark, Matt Uhlman, Nathaniel Rust)

Royal Pendletons European tour prt III, from the PITS to the SLAUGHTERHOUSE

sorry I haven't written more on the tour diary. after my last post, things got too hectic. and now, I really only have time and concentration enough to write a short version of what happened. taking up where I left off:

after sleeping in the very nice apartment above bar mondial, spent the next day wandering the charming port city of Antwerp. did a little record shopping, "little" being the operative word due to lack of time and euro's. this was to be par for the course. oh well! did laundry fo… Continue

Royal Pendletons European tour diary part one: THE ESCAPE

so last week Hurricane Gustav was slowly advancing north towards New Orleans. Much panic and pandemonium. worried I would not make my plane to Holland. Tommy and Louie supposed to fly with me but they decided to stay behind for family and Business reasons--tommy because of his kids, and Louie because of his Parents. so saturday night I spent all night securing my house, Laura's house, the cat, packing for trip--at 4 am police car and national gaurd trucks were driving up and down the streets of… Continue
