About Me
I was at IU in Bloomington in the mid 80s, got a BFA in Painting. Then I went to Oxford. Mississippi for my MFA (worthless), and after a few years in Prague, CZ, came back and eventually moved to New Orleans. Spent two years there and moved to New York City where I had various web coding temp jobs. After four years, the IT bubble burst, I got sick of New York and moved back to Prague, where I teach English though I'm sick of it. Got married two years ago to an art historian and I have a son, Dominik, 1 1/2 yrs old.

What bands are you or have you been in?
My first band was The Bloks, a high school new wave thing in Lexington, KY with Joey Ketron. At IU I was in the short-lived Figments with James Combs. For a long time after that I just hung out with bands, but in Prague I sang in Vavřinec Studnička (which is my name somewhat in Czech). More recently I have an industrial computer music project called Monolithic Dome and a Deerhoofish noise thing with my son called Boar Drool.
What city are you from?
Lexington, KY basically

A little ditty

Ever since I found this site I've had Jack and Diane running though my head. Well not incessantly, that would drive me mad, but I heard it recently when I was in the States a few weeks ago. Its a catchy song .. all that hard-luck small town Americana with big guitars, hand claps and Phil Collinsish multitrack drums, very 80s and very Indiana. And John Cougar Mellencamp made a career after that on the same theme .. but his heart is in the right place, with the little man, the rabble rouser who ge… Continue

Yeah, like on the second-story porch at the house next to the Spoon, listening to Sonic Youth's SISTER over and over again. ;)

Hey, you still have a tape of that Figments tune with Peter Buck sitting in? Cuya-fuckin'-hoga, dude!

Mr. Wells... nice to see/catch-up (figuratively) with you. I like the links to the photos. You have a lovely family. Interestingly enough, looking at pictures of you in the CR, it occurs to me you look a little eastern European yerself! What's up with that? I'm digging the links to your artistic endeavors as well.

Lawrence, Funny, I was thinking of you a few weeks ago when I went to see REM and wished you were dancing in the aisles. People would not have known what to make of it, now in these uptight times. I have a cousin living in Prague teaching English as well. Prague's a big city with a lot of language schools, I imagine, but her name is Bethany Scharnowske. Hard name to forget.
Take care, lrs

Good to see you, Lawrence. Yeah, I seem to be able to recall a thing or two, but there are big pieces missing. I had to fudge it a bit between 1991 and 1993 because I obliterated large parts of my cerebral cortex during those years. I try to think about something that happened during that time, and all I can see is a sort of emerald green mist accompanied by the sound generated by a T.V. test pattern. Some good shit lost in there too!

Glad you're well, and glad you're here.

Hey Lawrence! It's so good to hear from you and see that you've found this community/reunion thingy. I haven't seen you since AG played in Oxford and held a marathon wiffle ball tournament on your front lawn. Sounds like you have had many adventures since we last spoke. What did you think of New Orleans? I am down there from time to time to be with family. I can't however, picture ever living there again, too much creepy personal history I guess. Were you there for Katrina? Hopefully the city will come back, yet I still have my doubts. I love the people of New Orleans but they are a quite dysfunctional lot. Re-electing Nagen, for me seemed like strike one. Glad to hear that you a married and with child, sounds blissful. Congratulations my friend. Let me know if you are ever in my neck of the woods. I would love to see you and I don't make it to Prague very often.
