Mike: "This site restarted my music buying, by the way. Mostly old stuff I never had on CD but also a few current artists." You mean the bootleg site or MFT? MFT certainly has gotten my music bug going better. And--if it were the bootleg site--wou...

My favorite part of the story was this: "listening to The Rocky Horror Picture Show LP on a close and play"--as in, one of those little toy record players? Wild detail if I understood it correctly.

Johnny Cougar

This is a really well thought out rant/comment about The Music Business by Mr. Cougar, it's very long but worth reading.

Someone suggested a blog/conversation about John Cougar a while back.
As far as the music goes, I think he is better than Henry Lee, but not as good as Dale.

Please discuss.

Armed Forces In America (The Marketing of Elvis Costello)

Armed Forces In America (The Marketing of Elvis Costello)

On March 11 1979, Elvis Costello and the Attractions played the IU Auditorium in Bloomington Indiana, on March 14 in Columbus Ohio, he hit the wall.

The part I remember the most was they had these green lights that shot horizontally across the stage instead of shining down on the band. Elvis ordered the audience to stand up, bass player Bruce Thomas executed an amazing cross-legged drop to the stage. PLOP! I think the band though… Continue

Big Dusty Boxes of Cassettes [*_*]

[*_*]

Those big dusty boxes of cassettes were calling out to me. Originally, I was gonna sit down and archive my crappy music to CD, but no matter how many one-ies and beers I consumed, it was too much like work. All the other tapes seemed more appealing. Unmarked tapes of music I couldn’t identify were better. My library of local bands made me feel like a cultural anthropologist, and that Johnny Horton tape I bought in a truckstop is still a hoot.

After a few weeks of sorting, I decide… Continue

Hi John & Jessica,

Thanks so much for coming out yesterday and being, as always, so supportive. It meant a lot to all of us. You said something like, "There are millions of songs out there to choose from, why pick mine". Simply, it's a great song. Al brought the Phantom Lure CD in, with your song as I believe the first track. We listened to it and loved it. It's a fun song to play. It has such a positive vibe. I ended up humming it all week. So why play your song? It's a freaking great song, that's why. We all love you like a brother, brother! I am so happy for you and Jessica. And I hope we continue to see both you here and there.

Hi JSS.... The Frayed Knots with be clogging this weekend... excuse me, will be warming up the amazing and always death-defying clogging group"Hearts Ablaze", (Named this because Oswalt Swarmy, eldest member of the group, actually clogged so hard back in 1975 that his heart burst into flames.

We start Saturday, June 27th, around 2:30 in the afternoon... With Clogging starting right after that... Not to be missed. We have something special planned for you, so please come. It's a family thing, so the more the marryer... that can't possibly be the right spelling... marrier... hell I don't know... Anyhow... bring your Clogs!

Low Point: Going with members of Jot to set up a show(?) / talk to Bill Levin. I'll never forget it because of how wasted Bill seemed to be and he ended up whipping his penis out while we were talking. High Point: Seeing Cody Chesnutt play there.
