Thanks for the note. I won't claim to remember the conversation, but I remember your face. Nice to see you!

Oops that link is dodgy (blast) but google it, it's worth it.

In a couple of blog posts early this year I argued vigorously regarding MJ's merits - I think in his (rather lengthy) prime he was a total genius. His story is fascinating and I'm sure will become more fascinating as details come out. At this poin...

To be more clear, I'm writing a piece for a scholarly anthology and, at least at this stage in the writing, I'm planning on quoting from your blog on "punk-approved wuss rock." I don't actually expect it would be anything you'd mind, and I presume...

J. P. Strohm: I'd like to ask you about quoting something you've written--would you mind adding me so I could send you a message about it? (I'll send a friend request.) If you'd rather talk about it on the "wall" here, that's fine, too.

On Musicianship

I'm going to keep this short and sweet, because I have a bunch of work to do today; but there's something I've had on my mind since I wrote about the Zero Boys a couple months ago (which article, by the way, is the cover story in this month's Ryder Magazine in Bloomington). I've been thinking about the importance of technical proficiency in musicians.

When I first started playing drums, my goal was to get "good". I used to have arguments with my good pal Harry - also a drummer - about who was t… Continue

Must have something to do with my work computer, but I can never get hyperlinks to show up on MFT. Anyway, here is a URL for an article I posted today on the Know the Music Biz blog on Creative Commons licensing: http://tinyurl.com/cmdyew

First Lemonheads Video: Second Chance (1987)

Thanks to Ben Deily for this link. This is the first ever Lemonheads video from 1987 for the song Second Chance, from the album Hate Your Friends. Ben is the singer in this one - for those only familiar with the later Lemonheads stuff, on the first three albums Ben and Evan shared the singing and songwriting. This was only a couple months after I joined the band - I joined just before HYF was released but after it was recorded. This was shot in and around Kenmore Square… Continue

I don't actually expect it would be anything you'd mind, and I presume it's a fair use thing, but since we're both on MFT, I thought it'd be nice to double-check...

Warped Tour was a blast! NOFX, Anti-Flag, Bad Religion, Flogging Molly, and The Ataris all put on good shows. Hadn't slam danced in years before this; I don't remember it being that tiring.
