The Aged Musician--Drugs

Long time no post... Mostly because not much has progressed since the summer on the musical front here in dirty Jersey. The drummer saga, generally continues. We found a guy who is (was?) really quite good. Young fellow named Jay. Lots of piercings, tats, and black clothes. However, playing slightly against type, he's a very quiet, shy dude. Unfortunately, there have been some negatives around his attendance at our very infrequent practices--though it appears he had some good reasons. As we star… Continue

The Aged Musician--Drummers

Drummer misses practice in Queens. Practice in Queens is no small event: I drive 50 minutes, pay $10 in tolls, pay $25 bucks for rehearsal space, and use up 5 hours of a precious weekend day. The drummer in question subsequently lets us know that he didn't make it because he was in jail, he doesn't elaborate. The guy's name is Carlo and he lives with his grandmother. I don't mean to impugn people named Carlo, nor people who reside with their grandmothers. I'm just proving factual background.

The Aged Musician--New Jersey

Maplewood, New Jersey is a lovely suburb of New... ark and the lesser known, but apparently much more roughneck town of Irvington. It is, however, on a direct train line to Penn Station, so hence its allure to those who want the Suburban life but want to remain "city." If you've seen the movie "Little Children" you should be able to picture Maplewood. In fact, the pool scenes in that film were filmed in nearby West Orange.

Maplewood is home to many "media" types. What type that is is not exactl… Continue

The Aged Musician--Intro

I thought it might be interesting to jot a few missives about the trails and tribulations of a an old man seeking to retain some vitality on the musical front. Since this site's been set-up and has this nifty bloggo feature, I thought I might as well do it here. I pledge to focus on my adventures in New Jersey around trying to make music as a 41 year-old with a job, wife, cat, and house (and hopefully a kid sometime). This pledge will be broken, no doubt--I have just left Washington DC after all… Continue

In your profile you state that you were in "a few Arson Garden variants."...and then there was silence, as the joke is now DOA..

...and the night you were trying to call the cops in Philly when the van got broken into and they stole the gameboy and all of Jimmy's clothes. Wonder what in the world you would do with Jimmy's clothes.

Hey, what town was that where we forgot to get paid? I remember there being some funny reason why we forgot, like I asked you if you got paid and you thought I said I got paid.

hey there Buddy! I saw you are in Maplewood - know it well - At the moment I am hanging my hat in Texas, but believe me for myriad reasons I wish I was takin' that PATH train into the city instead of the sucky commute I now face. I went to high school down the hill from you and back up a bit at a little place called Seton Hall Prep ("the Prep" - bet ya woulda never figured) so I'm well aquainted with your hood. Good to see you on here old man. I noticed you are looking for some folks to play with...let me know if you want, I know of a couple of guys/bands from back in the day. Oh yeah - did you see Brian is a Dr now? in Iowa...

Clark, thanks for the good words on the record. We're pretty happy with it even now, that it still continues to have relevance so long since it was recorded.

We received a ton of Target gift cards, we were spending 500 to $1000 a week there for awhile. If we got one from you and I never expressed my gratitude, it was only because we could not always tell where they came from.

And let me say it now, without everyone's support there is no way we could have survived those awful times. Our insurance made up for some of what we lost but the loss was certainly enormous. I've dedicated my life to trying to give back to the music community and to the whole world.

So thank you for the help. I hope you realize how much it meant to me and my family. After the storm we had to go to Target and my son didn't even have shoes to wear while he was learning to walk. Or food for our pets.

The problem with mp3's is that the bass sounds terrible!

Add Your Band, yo

Andy, yeah, I know what you're saying...the Lemonheads then instantly faded into multi-platinum obscurity. That's such a great perspective when most people have no idea the band even existed pre-1992. If anyone bothering to read this hasn't heard t…

Burd, I would never accuse you of being shy about speaking your mind. And I doubt anyone would have thought me anything but a raging snob from way back. And with the anti-Manilow snobbery of the post below, we continue to have plenty in common. FTR:…

John, it didn't seem like good natured to me when I went back and looked. It reeked of pretentious snobbery. Haughtiness. The funny thing is; I'd probably step up and say something if someone was doing it to you. Incidently, there are all sorts of t…
