I used to play bass, many moons ago. Can still rock guitar hero, but my love for music is as a fan.
I was one of the people who spent every minute of everyday in Broad Ripple growing up: scrounging through records at Second Time Around, skating at Roses and Lollipops, Drinking Coffee at Cafe Espresso, and smoking cigarettes at the trestle.
I picked up bass at about 17, was very mediocre at it, and ended up hocking it while living in Chicago to pay my bills. I miss that bass, but not as much as I miss hanging out on that trestle and smoking.
What bands are you or have you been in?
I was briefly in the Snary Hatches/Bum Crib, who many just embarrassed themselves onstage at Brand X.
Congratulations!!! Hey, my wife was over 40 when we had our first little girl. We're expecting our second in December. So... ya, better late than never. :-)
SXSW in the Spring is a crazy, crazy time. Lots of good bands -- signed and unsigned bands from all over the world. I get a bit anxious being stuck in the middle of huge crowds, but it's worth it, depending on who's playing. ACL Fest (in late Sept/early Oct) tends to be more established bands (Foo Fighters, Drive-by Truckers, Vampire Weekend).
We usually make it to Indy once or twice a year. Our last trip this year was for my mom's birthday in June. We'll miss going there for xmas this year since the baby is due in early Dec and won't be ready for a plane ride.
So when's the baby due? Do you know if it's boy or girl yet?
I think Mike E is going to be a dad soon, too, isn't he?
Hey, Brian -- Ya, I moved to Texas in '91 for some more schoolin' and ended up staying down here. I like Austin, it's a great town for all kinds of music. You should make it down sometime for one of the music festivals: SXSW or ACL Fest. I think Greg Herrell was down here for SXSW a couple years ago. Really the only thing I DON'T like about Austin is the heat... I've had about enough of 100+ degree summers. :-)
Can't make it this weekend, but I will watch your website and check you out the next time that I am up. Also, if you play any shows down here in Indy, let me know that too.
Hey! Not much, thank goodness high school is over. I can't tell you how many cabbage patch/running man parties of sheer joy I've had in honor of not being there anymore.
I hope Irvington's going to be cool, I really like it down there. There's just that whole get a job, balance your money, don't screw up sort of complex. Which is pretty scary but oh well... I suppose I'll try and take it on anyway.
