Re: Sturm, "Times are bad..." When I was home in Indiana, I happened to dig out some of my albums, including that one. I made MP3s for myself from it, so Paul—if you'd like—I could send them to you...

Turnstyle music events contains archival pooh & miscellanea from concerts & music events mainly produced under the Turnstyle banner, but some that pre-date its founding (in 1982). Early Contemporary Sounds Co-op shows (1976-78), School of Other Music shows (1983-87), etc.

The Turnstyle literary events album features various Turnstyle-sponsored lit events, but in particular has programs & flyers from a series - "Literary Reading Plus" - I somehow convinced the IN Review to do with me that featured traditional writers/poets combined with food (meals), music, and (sometimes) less traditional writers/poets. The IN Review had their fill after only 7 shows in 8 months. Oh well.... I thought the shows were GREAT; an outgrowth of ER2/2.5 and a predecessor to Snowy Nights and the 1986-> ER Night effort.

ER Night researchers rejoice! Here's my collection of ER Night programs & promo flyers for ERs 1 thru 7. I'll also try to pull various press clips & ERchival ERrata into this "album":

OK Snowy Night fans: here's my complete collection of programs for Snowy Nights 1 thru 12, missing only SN11 (which some say never really happened....). Also included are 3 news clippings. If/as I find more archival pooh, I'll add it here:

Seems like I can't embed this as a slideshow here, alas.

Some Snowy Night programs.

Amazingly, it seems these were happening not quite every other month for a spell.

I remember the "Herd shot round the world" joke but the rest of that night is kind of a blur.

Ian I could hug you! I don't think I've ever pissed off so many people, but the program was structured to be just that very white-hot crucible of creative wellspring. We did 3 (or 4?) shows, and I was on the phone almost the entire day of EVERY DAY following the premiere, working to calm angered souls (and a multitude of angry friends) and maintain a fragile and barely containable programmatic structure. I had people from both the "boys" & "girlz" clubs insisting the show was a complete mistake that had to be stopped. The only other show I ever did that was MORE provocative was up in Michigan, which climaxed with my getting nicked by the local police. But that's a different story.... That "Herd" Snowy was a vividly memorable event, well worth the exhaustion & lost friendships (I think).

I'll never forget Snowy Night with Jim Herd. The Ruins formed for no other reason than to be a gag backup band only to become a running joke that never seemed to stop for the next decade or so. It was a decadent, fun filled, drugged out, uncomfortable evening. I remember getting very drunk and being particularly obnoxious. It was a night of conflict and contrasts that created an atmosphere of both merriment and hostility. There were some very serious, angry and self-absorbed radical lesbian poets vs. the devil may care, all sheets to the wind attitude of a wild motley crew of drunken punks. Jim Herd had apparently dosed on some LSD before the show and was mostly silent or incoherent while he was supposed to be interviewing the guests. John Barge introduced Jim with one of the most hysterical jokes I've ever heard him tell. It went something like this: Did you hear Jim Herd wanted to be an astronaut so he could be the first Herd shot around the world? It was a thoughtful joke with an historical reference that was so appropriate for Jim (God rest his soul) I'll always remember it.

in the case of the zero boys, the 2005 show has been up on mft since...2005, and one of the zero boys made it known to me that the 2008 show better not ever show up on the internet (mild threat implied). it was recorded for the family of lonpaul.

That's amazing. A good $20-worth of 9V batteries in that chain.

I'm down to a DOD Flashback Fuzz, a Rat, a Maxon overdrive (generic Tube Screamer, used for a clean boost) a Boss 6 band footswitch EQ, and a Morley volume pedal. I sure would like to have a Memory Man.
