For more information about Muncie Music here on MFT check out the following.
Incomplete List of No Bar Acts, Fall 87 - Spring 88 A blog by Celester
Hello Muncie A blog by Bill Zink
The No Bar and Grill Muncie Indiana 1985-1988 A discussion in In Music Venues past and present started by Janie Danger.
Flying Tomato - Muncie Indiana
COC/Dead Pigeon (Now Doc's Music Hall) - Muncie Indiana
Patterson Block/ Gra Light Theatre/ The Block - Muncie Indiana in Music Venues Past and Present, all started by Sean O'Neil.

There are lots and lot of pictures, flyers, setlists and art scattered through out this site, the search function works well enough but start with the profiles of the members of this group, you will find some terrific stuff.

This group is open to all Muncie Music, I would love to see discussions of 60s and 70's (any 50's?) music.

It may be too soon for the current crop of Muncie bands to relive thier past, but I would like to see a discussion about them also.

Fuckin' A, I love being half right! But hey, that second set is all killer, innit? But I understand they had an album to sell. Speed Racer slays, however...

Ok, well, At the Drive In played at Stevie Ray's to 30 people (and I still don't really care for them or their spawn) but I was drinking Schaefer in the woods in Richmond. Lotsa "important" shows missed. Whatever.

And per Emens, I saw the Violent Femmes (94?), Bob Dylan (97?), and Rollins' spoken word (97). And whatever, also.

Neil was great at Emens. It was the 'country tour' featuring Rufus Tibadeau on fiddle. I believe David Allen Coe was the opening act for this tour.(International Harvester?).The Brubeck show was with the Twyla Tharp dance troupe and it was very DM worthy.I also had the fortune of seeing the one and only Frank Gorshin in 'A Streetcar Named Desire.' Gorshin was a true star, and the fact he chose to visit us lowlifes in Muncie is a testement to his coolness.

Good work Ron, that kinda rings a bell. Neil Young was great at Emens. Best show I ever saw there was Cab Calloway, but he didn't do the song Reefer Man.

Ah yes, here it is. It was billed as "3-Devo." And Emens Auditorium was one of many campus auditoriums around the country where you could pay to see the live broadcast (with 3-D glasses) the night before Halloween of 1982:
-------------------------------------------------
Set List of 3-DEVO
LIVE SHOW: October 30, 1982
At Warner Beverly Hills Theatre,
“Hollywood“, California

Time Out For Fun • Patterns • Speed Racer • Big Mess • Peek-A-Boo • Out Of Sync • That’s Good • Freedom Of Choice Theme • Whip It • Girl U Want • Planet Earth • Explosions • Deep Sleep • Jocko Homo • Mongoloid • Uncontrollable Urge • Gates Of Steel • Smart Patrol • Mr. DNA • Gut Feeling • Booji’s Beautiful World

“3-DEVO,” was a live pay-per-view concert which was broadcasted in 3D to various colleges and cable TV.
3-DEVO was broadcast live on 10-30-82 and
as an edited re-broadcast 10-31-82.

Ah, Mark is right. But so is Scottie... There WAS a Devo show at Emens auditorium in the fall of 1982... but Devo didn't play THERE. The show was someplace else and they had a big screen in the auditorium... it was an early attempt at a 'virtual concert' years before anybody had heard the term "virtual reality."

So Devo played someplace (can't remember exactly where) and there was a LIVE SOUND AND VIDEO link up... and if you paid the money, you got to watch DEVO on a big screen and hear it through the Emens Auditorium sound system... but they weren't actually in Muncie....

I remember being really excited about this show when slick posters were plastered all over BSU campus. (It was definitely the french fry in the donut graphic). A bunch of other folks also were excited... Then we found out it was just a glorified live television broadcast that you had to pay to see... I didn't go. I only know one person who did go... and he said it was cool, innovative, but nothing close to seeing the band for real.

So it's not anybody's imagination that there was a massive advertising campaign and tickets were sold to see Devo at Emens Auditorium in the fall of 1982. That really did happen. But Devo never set foot in Emens... or Muncie, as far as I know... at least, not at that time.

Scottie,

Scottie, Devo did not play Emens. I had a bunch of friends that were totally into Devo in the early eightys and I would have been at this if they werer there. (Steve S & I were roomates in the dorms that year). I think they may have played the Holiday Star Theater in Marlville, IN in 82 or 83 buth that's probably as close as they got to Muncie. Muncie was definatly not ready for Devo, even in 82. Neil Young did play Emens in the early 80s and I saw Dave Brubeck there and it blew my mind. Henry Rollins played the No Bar but the other bands you mention did not. There were, however, a number of amazing shows at the No Bar. Many by band that have been long forgotten.

You know who you are, come out and be counted! Did you spend countless nights at Second Story? Did you eat at Rockits? Can you barely remember the 1990s?

Warped Tour was a blast! NOFX, Anti-Flag, Bad Religion, Flogging Molly, and The Ataris all put on good shows. Hadn't slam danced in years before this; I don't remember it being that tiring.
