List of local Venues throughout Indy music history.

Everyone has played in venues before, how about we get a listing of some old places that we've all played at. See how far back you can remember, and see if those places have been refurbished or renamed. Also welcome to add any favorites from the present tense. Any if you're feeling good, some places you'd like to see a venue put in.

Here's a good list that will be updated.

Muggins was great. That was where the infamous Yow poopin' his pants happened. I believe that incident even had a blurb in Spin Magazine. Siobhon Grey and I drank most of Bob Stinson's tequila shots off his amp, but he was too far gone to care.

Holy Smokes!!! I barely remember that place, but one of the bands I was in played there. Not sure which band - either the Cavelords or Paisley Hell.

The Mike Sheets band wasn't Cheeses from France, was it?

The Yow poop show was the best.Everybody running away from a poop covered Yow,except Bill Levin who is running toward the stage.I believe the PA equip belonged to the Oliver Syndrome and it was covered in doo-doo.Some serious bitchin later that night.

Well if we're going with non-punk and "big" venues, my first rock concert (not counting lots of giant country shows at that Indiana State Fair Coliseum as a kid in the 60s, saw Johnny Cash there in 1970) was The Amboy Dukes at the Convention Center, with a young idiot named Ted Nugent on guitar, Cactus opened. June, 1974. Melody Skateland on West Washington in Indy had cover bands on Saturday night after skating was done, too. And what was the name of the place in Fountain Square in the 60s where The Electric Prunes played?

There was an A-frame place on St. Rd. 32 in Chesterfield (between Muncie and Anderson), but I forget the name. In January of '90 TBW! recorded all day with Jeff Weiss in Muncie, and then went and played two sets at this A-frame. There were a bunch of kids there to see us. We set up in the balcony, and all these kids were crammed in front of the stage. By the third song in, the balcony was empty except for the band and a couple of my brothers. Tony into the mic: "Hey, where'd everybody go? Come back and we'll play 'Whaleshark', honest!" From somewhere down below: "Play faster, you homos!" So we started into one of our faster numbers. My brother is at the railing, smirking at me and pointing over the railing. I had a long cord, so I went to the edge of the balcony, looked over, and we had an honest-to-god moshpit going on the ground floor. We ran out of songs halfway through the first set, so we just started improvising. The first set ended when my amp blew. The second set was completely improvised, and ended when the blisters on Sarah's hands popped and started bleeding.

Genius. The very definition of rock 'n' roll. (In my atrophied opinion.)

Yes it was! Thank you.It might be bad when you can't remember the names of bands that you were in.I sat in a hole in the stage at that chase show.During the Kiss medley I smashed a guitar and people fought over the parts. If my parents only knew what their 14 yr old was up to.

Mike,I am going to get Moran on board if I can.Mark Miller was another member of the Abdomen. He know lives in Nashville and has his own thing going.Saw him at the Bill Kirchen and the hammer of the honky tonk gods show @ Radio Radio this spring.Mark plays bass for BR549 when they go out. That Triumph show blinded me.I talked to Curt Kirkwood @ a Puppets show earlier this year.He has very fond memories of Indiana.

Man, if y'all want to get technical about "first" concerts, mine is a good 'un - I "saw" The Jefferson Airplane, The Byrds (Clarence White lineup) and B.B. King in 1969 at the original Little 500 stadium on 10th Street (site of the big race in Breaking Away), which was leveled in the 80s and is now some sort of arboretum. I was two years old. I'm still disappointed that my parents didn't let me have the brown acid - they made me take those goddamn lightweight peyote buttons - the ones that make you puke - and not even enough to really hallucinate. And the weed back then was for shit. But I did see some boobies.

Andy, yeah, I know what you're saying...the Lemonheads then instantly faded into multi-platinum obscurity. That's such a great perspective when most people have no idea the band even existed pre-1992. If anyone bothering to read this hasn't heard t…

Burd, I would never accuse you of being shy about speaking your mind. And I doubt anyone would have thought me anything but a raging snob from way back. And with the anti-Manilow snobbery of the post below, we continue to have plenty in common. FTR:…

John, it didn't seem like good natured to me when I went back and looked. It reeked of pretentious snobbery. Haughtiness. The funny thing is; I'd probably step up and say something if someone was doing it to you. Incidently, there are all sorts of t…
