List of local Venues throughout Indy music history.

Everyone has played in venues before, how about we get a listing of some old places that we've all played at. See how far back you can remember, and see if those places have been refurbished or renamed. Also welcome to add any favorites from the present tense. Any if you're feeling good, some places you'd like to see a venue put in.

Here's a good list that will be updated.

I'll start with a place I've never been, but have heard about many times. Then onto a rather interesting place to play. Then of course, a couple classics.

- The Secret Spot in Broad Ripple
- WIUX Radio's in-house venue
- The Patio
- Second Story

Skitz
Hoosier Ballroom

I'm sure I've left something out, but these are most of the Punk/Alternative venues that Bill Levin and I booked at through the 80's-90's.
If any old schoolers can add to this please feel free.

Muggins...I think Bill booked there as well. I definitely remember you there in '86 giving me a hard time about the fact that my hair was now long enough not to have to wear a wig to get the desired effect. Heh heh....

And how about the Chase, the Pizza Castle...I'm sure given time I could come up with more...

United States of Mind
Vertigo (now 9th street bar)
The Buskirk Chumley

There was a venue on upper Mass Ave. that I only got to a handful of times that would play hard rock, punk, metal, and I even saw Lord of the Yum Yum there.

I think the worst venue was the MMW's stage in the Broad Ripple mall. It was just.... weird.

(there was a place in chicago called the Fireside Bowl.. perhaps one of my favorite places ever.. old bowling alley.. smelly, dirty, dungenous...awesome)

if I may jump in off topic: Fireside Bowl was a trip I may be crazy but didn't it have something like a 40 foot ceiling? I saw Fugazi, Shellac and the Make up (now Weird War) there.

on topic (kinda): The most bizarre punk show/venue for me was in the back room of a health food store in Lafayette. I'll have to research details though. David Fortney was there I recall.

In Bloomington:
Thirty Three Steps
Wild Beet
Garcia's

In Muncie:
No Bar and Grill
Flying Tomato

yes, the fireside bowl had way low ceilings.. bands like at the drive in, small brown bike, and alkaline trio would play there. it smeeeeeellllllled sooo bad, yet so good.

I think the craziest show I saw was a house party in Lafayette. A town that doesn't have much promise on the outside, but has the craziest mo fo's ever.. everywhere.

I will always appreciate the impact that Josh had on my musical development. He taught me a lot about music theory and arrangement that I wouldn't have learned otherwise I think. However he feels now, I'm sure he has his reasons. I'm just glad tha...
